send wedding help.

[J] & I did a happy dance this weekend  – our Iowa wedding reception has a home!

we can now put the finishing touches on our invitations & hand them over to the postman.

but along with this new space comes more decisions to be made. how are we going to decorate it? who will cater it? what food will we serve? what traditional reception activities must we do ..bouquet toss? wedding party intro? should we hire a photographer? what dessert will we serve? how are we going to incorporate our destination wedding into our Iowa reception? I could go on for days. so while there are many decisions to be made & stress to be felt ..I am beyond excited. some genius part of my brain keeps reminding me to enjoy this time planning the wedding of our dreams. it’s going by so quickly.

I want all of you to come along with me throughout the process. and I need your help + input. for the above & below questions.

for our Iowa reception: simple or extravagant table centerpieces?

I cannot get over this. and believe I could somehow re-create this for our venue. what do you think? DIY ceiling bouquet.

and for our beach ceremony: rock TOMS or go barefoot?

8 months 14 days til ‘I do’.

happy tuesday!

  1. I think a lot of these items depend on your budget! For our wedding (which was on cliffs and not the beach) I wore heels for the ceremony and sparkly white Toms for the reception. I highly recommend them! Just be careful of going barefoot on the beach because you really don’t want to be dealing with sand that is too hot or worrying about where you’re stepping when there are going to be so many other things on your mind!

    1. I really am loving the idea of TOMS. I have sparkly blue heels for the reception + photos, so I love the idea of blue TOMS. but you’re right, there are many other places my mind will be when walking down the aisle!! thank you lisa!! xo :)

  2. I went with cupcakes for my wedding and loved it over cake! I think you should keep it simple, and I love that ceiling bouquet! Definitely barefoot for the beach wedding!

    1. thank you, thank you mandy!! I am truly all over the place. I love traditional but I love the newer wedding trends too. so it’s been a struggle. but when it comes to desserts, I am so much more of a cupcake girl. plus it makes serving easier!

      1. I loved keeping my wedding very traditional but really I think in the ends it’s all about what you like more! I think there are plenty of ways to incorporate traditional with the newer trends, the ceiling bouquet being one of them. Cupcakes are also way easier for people to take home with them as well if they’d like. We had tons left over and made sure everyone got some to take home.

  3. I personally love cake for weddings but maybe do the whichever at your reception that you’re not doing at your wedding. Best of both worlds :)

  4. So glad that you have the reception space nailed down! If you really love the DIY ceiling bouquet then I would suggest you go with the simple table arrangments. I’ve seen both cake and cupcakes at weddings and both have been great! Again, I think it’s based on the tone you want to set. If it’s more casual go with cupcakes. If it’s more formal go with cake. GOOD LUCK!

    1. thank you ashley!!!! can you imagine what my apartment is going to turn into while I’m creating that ceiling bouquet?! ahh. but it’s gorgeous, so I’m putting it on the ‘must’ list. I may need to think a bit more on casual vs formal …

  5. More decisions left– my goodness planning a wedding (destination or not) is a lot of decision! I love cupcakes at weddings because then I can have a few without anyone noticing! Have fun planning, it looks likes you have some great inspiration!

  6. I’m torn on whether I want cupcakes or an actual cake too. You could always do a tier or two of cake and do the rest in cupcakes.

    1. I think that may be the best option. I’ve always wanted a wedding cake. but if I had to choose which I’d rather eat, I’d pick a cupcake over a cake any day. hmm ..

  7. My choices would be cupcakes, keeping it simple with the beautiful ceiling display and definitely barefoot for the beach. It’s all so exciting :-)
