the week in photos: special edition.

we’ve been back home for four days. and they’ve flown by. filled with unpacking, laundry, grocery shopping, 100’s of emails, and settling back into our ‘routine’. as much as I loved our escape, it’s nice to be home. plus there are so many fun things on the horizon, to keep us busy & not sitting still.

[J] & I both have birthdays at the end of the month. a day apart actually. [I’m the 27th & he’s the 28th]. that’s always fun. two jam-packed days of celebration.

my favorite time of year is quickly approaching: autumn FOOTBALL SEASON. you can guarantee I’m already planning a couple trips back to our college town to relive our glory days tailgate! we did, after all, receive the “award” of {#1 party school this year}. but don’t judge us, because des moines, IA was ranked {#1 best place for business & careers}. this practically says: iowans know how to work hard, play hard.

and ..

J & I are engaged //

which is incredibly exciting. and means, we have a wedding to begin planning!

on that note, let’s do the week in photos: special proposal edition.

it all happened on DAY ONE of our trip.

we set up our campsite. and headed to mount rushmore, for the nightly lighting ceremony.

engagement edition //

the sun set. the moon came out. and the ceremony began.

engagement edition //

a lady spoke, they played a 20 minute video, and everyone in attendance stood to sing the national anthem ..

engagement edition //

then the spotlights came on.

and simultaneously, [J] got down on one knee ..

I immediately began crying. the happiest cry I’ve ever cried. I was speechless. [excluding a couple “are you serious?”]. after a really long hug, a kiss, & a crazy amount of tears ..

I said “yes”!!

and the family sitting next to us insisted they take our picture, to capture the moment. so generous. and sadly, such poor photography skills ..

engagement edition //

it’s the thought that counts.

another girl offered to take our picture later. and by later, I mean, after about 15 minutes of more tears. my eyes were so red, blotchy, & puffy ..

engagement edition //

engagement edition //

the next morning, we had breakfast at our campsite. [breakfast burritos over the fire, and french press iced coffee].

engagement edition //

and we went back to mount rushmore. to re-capture the moment.

and then we took off to our next destination ..

as an engaged couple.

woo hoo!

spilling the beans.

I am so happy this day is here, because I cannot keep my mouth shut any longer ..

I put up two ‘clues’ on {instagram} over the weekend. here are three more ..

then I’m spilling the beans!

spilling the beans //

[J] & I both purchased a pair of what I call “all-purpose” shoes. {merrell’s barefoot trail gloves}.

spilling the beans //

we got hydration backpacks.

spilling the beans //

and then there was friday afternoon ..when I tried to pitch a tent in our living room. fail. our apartment is not big enough, my tent-building skills are just fine.

you’d think that last clue really exposed the announcement. yes, we’re taking a trip. and we will be camping. but there’s more to it ..

we’re calling it ..

spilling the beans //

inspired by a trip my parent’s took me on as a child. our need strong desire for a vacation. love of road trips. want to spend time together. and chance to see some of our country’s greatest sites.

we’ll be gone for 16 days!!!!

we’re hitting mount rushmore. little bighorn battlefield. the badlands. devils tower. yellowstone. salt lake city, UT. estes park & denver, CO. just to name a few. we will not be camping the entire time, only about half ..[that’s enough for me]. I haven’t been camping since age 10-ish. so [J] & I are in for an adventure.

in regards to the blog ..

my mom says camping is more ‘civilized’ these days, but I’m not convinced and/or taking any I’m leaving you in the hands of some of my favorite bloggers who will keep you entertained distracted while I’m gone. they’re amazing! and have some fun things up their sleeves. I do plan to write a couple posts ..most definitely “the week in photos” [on friday’s]. and probably a few others. basically, there will be a new post up each day. so you won’t even notice I’m gone!

besides the fact that we’ll be busy fighting off bears, scratching mosquito bites, and using a campfire as our oven ..[J] & I are making a conscious effort to disconnect. at least for the first 6 days of our trip, no social media. [I may sneak an instagram here & there].

I’ll have my camera with me at all times. and will recap the entire trip when we return.

let the last minute preparations begin ..

happy monday!

where [the heck] I’ve been.

the truth: taking a mind break. finding myself. and creating goals to make my life in des moines, IA everything I want it to be.

I, again, apologize for the disappearing act I pulled last week. but on a positive note, the content of LLinaBC should benefit from my break. I’ve collected my thoughts, organized them, and have a plan to make this baby better.

besides that, I haven’t done anything too “blog-worthy”. no recent BTS* moments

[blog that shit*].

snow storm QI did survive snow storm Q. frankly, it was overrated where I live. we only got approx. 6″. how’d I survive alllllllll that snow?

moscow mulesI credit the moscow mules [J] mixed up for us, the couch, & nowhere to be! these may be my all-time favorite cocktails. they’re scrumptious, refreshing ..& dangerous.

flowers from [J]

[J] took off on friday for a business trip. he’s gone for seven days. comes home for one. and   leaves again for five more. so he generously surprised me with a bouquet of flowers. they’re absolutely beautiful. and help bridge the distance gap a little.

the next book club read is: The Night Circus. by erin morgenstern.

the night circusthe book club has been a bit chaotic this month. {The Thread Affect} is climbing mount everest, seriously [wonder woman? yes]. & I moved to a different state. so in the midst of all of that, we decided on The Night Circus. and we’ll be posting our reviews together on Thursday, March 7th.

if you’re thinking, this is too short of notice to start & finish a book might be right. but I’m going to prove you wrong [I hope], because I started TODAY. and I’m on page 55. [there’s approx 500]. be crazy with me! get your copy {here}.

I must go. [I hate talking about this. I may be a little superstitious. but ..] I have an interview this morning. wish me luck.

then I have big plans: organize the pantry. to rival those on pinterest.

happy monday.
