miscellaneous four.

friday is here. friday is here.

[J] is off work today, and I am “forcing” him to try a new local restaurant with me. where is yet to be determined. I have a list two pages long of places I need to visit in des moines. what have I been doing? we’ve been living here almost a year now. I am a total creature of habit. I find a place I love and I can’t get enough of it. I must be feeling adventurous this cold afternoon.

cucumber dill.

the holidays can be stressful. tell me if I’m wrong. this is how hosting thanksgiving goes at my parent’s ..

the stress begins before the sun comes up because the turkey must be put into the oven. and that’s only the beginning. there are multiple side dishes to be prepared. which opens up numerous potential catastrophes; usually there’s at least one. like the year I burnt the mashed potatoes [I didn’t even know that was possible]. never mind the fact people always show up early and I’ve been so consumed forced to help in the kitchen ..I’m still in my pajamas. so then there’s the stress of getting ‘holiday ready’ in 10 minutes. and did I mention dinner won’t be served for another hour? I’ve been up for 4 and am beyond hungry. add it to the list.

meet the saving grace of my thanksgiving. a four ingredient appetizer that’s just enough to tide me over until the main event, but not too heavy to spoil my appetite.

picture this: I’ve just spent 4 hours helping my mom in the kitchen, whilst downing an entire pot of coffee. I hear the first guests pull into the driveway, but before they can reach the front door ..I run upstairs to get ready. ten minutes later, I’m dressed appropriately [or at the least, no longer in my pj’s]. it’s back to the kitchen. I uncork the day’s first bottle of wine and begin work on the easiest appetizer, that will get me through until the meal is served. along with the glass of wine.

cool the quinoa & ground sausage. otherwise they’ll cook the eggs when you mix all the ingredients together. that’d be bad.
