I welcome any & all reasons to celebrate. and absolutely adore traditions. so holidays are my jam.
easter is no exception. since [J] & I became roommates [4 years ago], we’ve made a point to spend the day drinking mimosas, baking a breakfast casserole, and indulging in chocolate bunnies. after all, holidays are meant to be spent relaxing & having fun with the ones you love.
actually our first year living together, I was so distraught by the fact that my easter may be sans a chocolate bunny rabbit. so [J] snuck to the store before I woke up and surprised me. it hasn’t been without since.
it was supposed to rain, but thankfully mother nature had a change of heart. so we dined al fresco, on the patio table [J] built us last year. [with a built-in ice bucket, fit for mimosa ingredients].
and [J] surprised me with an easter basket this year, that I had to scour our apartment for. it was filled with candy, and a vegetable peeler [because I broke ours]. he knows me well, I’m a kid at heart.
hope you all had the greatest easter.

[J] & I packed our bags, loaded up the car, and headed east on friday. destination: Chicago, IL.
we were going to spend time with [J]’s family. and so I could attend his sister’s bridal shower. but whenever we make it to chicago, we cram as much as possible into our two short days. so there were strolls through the city, late night cocktails with friends, and early brunches. let’s just say I slept like a baby last night.
on our way home, we were quite literally driving into the heart of a massive thunderstorm. dodging tornadoes. not really my cup of tea. then we woke up to snow on the ground. which tends to put a damper on your already ‘monday’ morning. but I’m two cups of coffee in, and have high hopes for this week.
hope you all had the greatest weekend.
I cannot believe tomorrow is christmas eve already. that happened fast.
[J] & I made our holiday plans in advance this year to ensure we spent quality time with both of our families. [especially after my
minor married holiday rant]. on december 13th, we were off to chicago to spend the weekend with [J]’s parents. but there was a family emergency, and his parents boarded a flight for colorado as we were on our way to illinois. and last weekend, we had plans to visit my hometown + celebrate with my family. but a ‘major’ snow storm hit the midwest, and kept us in our apartment. to say I was disappointed would be an understatement. we thought we had the two family, two different state christmas puzzle solved ..wrong-o. as the grinch would say.
I would assume this is where holiday stress stems from.
instead of sulking, [J] & I made the most of our weekend. we baked + decorated cookies. went out for brunch. and watched an insane amount of christmas movies.
sometimes you just have to make
lemons cranberries into lemonade a stiff drink. and roll with the punches.
fortunately, my parents + grandparents are traveling to colorado on christmas. and have decided to take a pit stop in des moines to spend christmas eve with [J] & I. so today I’ll be busy transforming our little apartment into the scene of a beautiful holiday feast. wish me luck.
see you tomorrow!
and happy monday.
