tips for blog events.

a lot goes into maintaining a blog.

from the beginning, it’s deciding what you want to share with others + how you want your little corner of the internet to look. there’s the endless brainstorming + never-ending possibilities. the styling + photography. the writing + the inevitable writer’s block. the unavoidable technology questions + issues. and of course, a lot of social media.

most blogs are a one-man show. they run the business, brainstorm + create the content, manage the social media channels, work with brands, and a lot of times ..all while simultaneously working a full-time job. it’s hard work, there is no doubt about it. and for those times when it becomes a bit exhausting, your inspiration needs inspiring, you need a fresh pair of eyes, or you just want to be surrounded by people that understand ..you go to a blog conference. and this weekend, I am so excited to be attending the GBS workshop in kansas city, MO.

[semi-side note: I recommend this for professionals in any field. it’s easy to get stuck in a routine. it’s really beneficial to see + hear how others around you are operating. we can all learn a lot from each other].

whenever I’m attending a professional event, you can dump out my tote + see these items ..

a notebook: while the rest of the world has moved on to taking notes on tablets, you can find me in the dark ages ..writing on paper. how you take notes is not important, just write them somewhere.

a writing utensil: even for you tablet users. there have been stranger places you’ve been asked if you have a pen. these are my favorites.

business cards: the trick is remembering to actually give them out. keep a few in hand. they’re not doing you any favors at the very bottom of your tote, all the way across the room, under your chair. we’ve all been there

• water: I keep a water bottle with me at all times, but for conferences ..I also throw into my bag a coconut water. this chocolate flavor is top notch.

phone + charger: the key is to finding a free plug-in when your battery starts to die, mid-tweet. if you can, a portable charger may really come in handy.

breath mints: no explanation necessary.

life // 9-5 syndrome.

I have been at my job for four months now. and I am so sad to say, I have the dreaded 9-5 syndrome. It’s an epidemic. but the first step to a cure is realization.

life // 9-5 syndrome c/o LLinaBC.com

what is 9-5 syndrome? it is common among the adult population. and can be detected when your monday through thursday consists of nothing more than work, dinner, sleep. repeat.

on a serious note, I have truly been struggling to find the energy & time to take on the world do anything after I get off work. but that’s not due to a lack of things to do. there is a wedding to plan [just over 3 months away], creating content for LLinaBC, about 99 things around the house. you get the ideait happens so quickly ..I get home from work, [J] & I make dinner, we spend a leisurely moment on the couch, and BAM! it’s 10:00PM. time for bed. I know my entire life would be happier if I got more done in a day than 8 hours at my desk.

do you suffer from 9-5 syndrome? what are your remedies?

travels // business in omaha.

during my radio silence last week, I was in omaha, nebraska. for four days of work training.

it just so happened, I arrived in town a mere thirty minutes before the tornado sirens went off. the city took shelter. and I took to the bar. [I get extreme weather anxiety. and I sure as heck was not staying in my high in the sky hotel room]. who else thinks I should be able to expense my sunday night, braving the tornado cocktails? I do. well, that’s how the trip started.

[*editor’s note: a tornado was spotted west of omaha. we just experienced 80 mph winds + thunderstorms].

days were spent in a marriott conference room. and nights were for discovering omaha.

from hotel room wine glass improvising, to the joy of changing out of my work clothes & into jeans, to delicious dinners, and a trip to the zoo. all captured by my phone.

I am happy to be home and back to my so-called routine. just as things are progressively getting crazier around these parts. it seems surreal to say we are in ‘wedding planning crunch time,’ with just over 4 months to go. summer is right around the corner. we have trips + celebrations on the books. I’m just excited and a little how the heck am I going to get everything done?.

happy monday.
