as I was editing the photos for today, I realized they collectively scream “I’m an adult”
hence why I don’t have two weeks off for christmas anymore.
now after that stellar introduction ..
it is the ‘best’ feeling when you have a spice-heavy recipe to make and you have ALL the needed spices in your spice rack. I almost always have to purchase something. but folks, I am now an adult.
winter in iowa triggers chili cravings.
I participated in an ornament exchange hosted by a slice of mudpie. for the exchange, I received mandy of mandy’s money blog. after a little “research,” I discovered she loves to bake. so when I found this little guy, I knew it was perfect for her.
she sent me a handful of pretty ornaments.
plus this gem to commemorate [J] & I’s engagement.
christmas is in five short days.
[J] & I are headed to my hometown tomorrow to celebrate with some of my family. we’re doing a white elephant style gift exchange at my aunt & uncle’s, and I cannot wait to steal the sweetest gift from someone. that’s me full of holiday cheer. and tonight, I may
ask make [J] bake cookies with me.
what’s in store for your weekend?
happy friday all.
you can officially watch christmas movies, crank up jingle bells, and decorate your house without the risk of being “too early” or “skipping over thanksgiving”.
I held off. reluctantly.
so I’m going to share a couple snapshots from my thanksgiving. and then talk about christmas!
hot apple cider.
possibly accompanied by a tiny bit of whiskey.
grandpa is the designated turkey carver.
once a year, just for thanksgiving my mom gets out the set of ‘classic car water glasses’. they were left to my dad when my grandfather passed away. it’s a little piece of him we love having at our dinner.
post-dinner football watching. with my parent’s sweet, pony-tailed pup.
then we had a couple visitors in the backyard.
only 23 short days until christmas is upon us. ahhhh.
sunday begun the 25 days of christmas challenge. [J] + I were tasked with “transforming our home with xmas decorations”.
tonight we’re decorating the tree.

new york city is magical. but decorated for the holidays .. it is absolutely breathtaking.
thanks to spontaneity & inviting myself on [J]’s business trip, I got to see the city in all of its christmas glory.
as soon as we landed .. [J] went to a meeting. & I went gallivanting, with my camera. [only fair, right?]
then all of my dreams came true …
I saw the today show while it was filming. [I could’ve easily made this happen when I lived in new york ..but the fact is, I didn’t].
and let me show you the VIEW I had ..
[only slightly worth the wait ..]
and the best photo of the trip goes to ..
what is this little boy up to?
oh nothing much, just perfect timing on MY part.
your eyes are not deceiving you. I’m proud of this moment I captured.
on that note ..
stay tuned for part two.
