we have entered the time of our lives where jobs, promotions, new homes, engagements, wedding, and babies are the norm. it’s fun to celebrate your friend’s successes, as well as your own. [but thankfully when [J] gets promoted, I can just bring him a 6-pack of his favorite beer & he’s content]. but it can get mundane. it’s like you fall into a pattern. you find out the occasion, purchase your go-to gift, and voilà.
time for a gift-giving face lift.
I typically start with a pretty basket and fill it with goodies that fit a theme.
our friends just recently purchased a beautiful home. and to celebrate I thought..moscow mules. seriously. it’s summertime. they have a great outdoor space. and who doesn’t love moscow mules?
the essentials: vodka, ginger beer, lime juice [and/or limes], paper straws, & a pretty picture frame of the moscow mule recipe. for fun, I added a summery candle.
do not forget the card.
I can not yet grasp that september is practically over. [in 3 days]. things have been busy around here. apparently too busy to look at a calendar. but I like busy. I think it suits me. I’m a better under-pressure-kind-of-gal. I have also been so kind to extend a project list [J]’s way. which has since been almost completely checked off. [I’m excited to show off his latest handy work today].
but first ..
last weekend [J] & I went back to my hometown for a friend’s wedding. I’ve always loved weddings. but they’re so much more emotional + fun now that I’m planning my own.
plus it’s always so great seeing faces you’ve missed.
my subtle reminder. it’s fall.
now [J]’s handy work ..
our yellow + grey bedroom is a work-in-progress. better it’s nothing but a couple pins on pinterest. so I’ve been anxious to turn those ideas into reality.
starting with a big, bold, statement: our headboard.
[J] completely constructed from scratch. which makes it even better, in my book.
he hand covered the buttons I HAD to have.
that’s the motivation I need to complete our room.
on the off chance you’ll be near cedar rapids, IA tomorrow, I’ll be at the ..
come join me!!
hope to see you there!
happy weekend all.
my favorite do-it-yourself projects start at the dollar store.
regardless of the project I have a 50% success rate. and if my supplies are under $5, my failure guilt is very low.
this project is no exception. but thankfully, it ended with success.
our dining room table was in desperate need of an elegant, fun, fall-inspired centerpiece.
[*editor’s note: [J] has been DIY’ing the heck out of our apartment. I
felt the need to had to step up my game].
3 plain cream candles. 3 cocktail glasses. and $6 bucks later ..I was well on my way to DIY success.
[tip: use unscented candles in your dining room. you want nothing to take away from the smells coming from your scrumptious food].
all you need is mod podge + glitter.
I went with gold to compliment our dining room decor + the upcoming season: autumn.
mix & get to painting your candles.
four coats later ..
while cleaning up the destruction.
completely transformed + upgraded $1 candles.
they’re ready for their pedestal …
and happy tuesday too.
