health // spring goals.

with my wedding less than 7 months away, and warmer weather so close I can almost feel it ..it is time to take my health + fitness up a level. ‘experts’ say it takes two weeks to create a habit, I am pretty certain it takes me closer to 3 months. so I need to begin now.

the way I see it, the smallest of changes can make a huge impact. and honestly ..the bigger the change, the less likely I am to stick with it. it’s just the way the cookie crumbles around here.

4 small changes I’m making today to better my health.

spring goals // LLinaBC.com

I use a fitness band [particularly: the jawbone UP24] to track my steps each day & my sleep each night. // a lot of water. // if you don’t know what ‘oil pulling‘ is, google it. I may report back later on my results/opinion. // I spend so much time sitting every day, why not make the sitting productive with a stability ball?

it’s the little things in life.

happy thursday!

and have a great first day of spring – hope it’s warm for you :)

miscellaneous four.

after 110+ friday’s of the week in photos, I’ve decided it’s time to retire it and start something new.

introducing:

miscellaneous four.

the idea behind it is to share four things I’ve collected throughout the week. it can be anything from a quote I’ve held onto, a recipe I’m loving, exciting life events, a lesson I’ve learned, and of course ..photographs. I want it to become less of ‘recap from my week’ and more of a takeaway for us all.

1 // which brings me to the new finally defined direction of little lessons in a big city. throughout the past few years, I’ve been working to transform this creative space from a personal journal to a full-blown lifestyle blog. I don’t want it to be necessarily about my day-to-day, but rather a collection of things that make each day better. many people start the new year with huge, often times unattainable goals, but I’m asking all of you to shift your focus with me in 2014.

and those little things will be what you can find on LLinaBC. a collection of how to’s, do-it-yourself projects, recipes, fashion + beauty tips, and the occasional life update.

you don’t have to make drastic changes to better your life, it’s all about the little things. like a handwritten note from a friend, a good glass of wine, a new piece of artwork, or a successful DIY project.

2 // pretty, little snowflakes. aren’t they beautiful?

3 // santa put this water bottle in my stocking and it has not left my side yet. I’ve definitely been drinking more water. and even eating quite a bit healthier. I have pictures of wedding dresses + bikinis dancing in my head. only 9 months to go.

drink more water.

the heat is finally giving us a break in the midwest.

we are no longer in the triple digits.

goodbye insta-sweat!!

[the term for walking outside & instantly sweating/or glistening ..whichever you prefer].

when it is that hot ..I without fail have water in my hand.

but the KEY is remembering to drink lots of water when the temps are tolerable.

luckily I have a motivational tool …

everyone’s weight fluctuates. but when you’re working hard to keep the lbs off and the scale shows a +1 ..it’s discouraging. chances are that measly 1lb is water weight.

instead of shying away from drinking water because it may add a couple pesky pounds, do the opposite.

why? because the less water you drink, the more your body will retain the water it has. [storing it right where you don’t want it stored]. so keep drinking water. when you put water in your body, you’re basically saying “hey guys, you can open the flood gates because I’ll keep you hydrated. no need to pay rent for storage space!”

you’re saving your body money [ha], staying hydrated, and avoiding unnecessary poundage. it’s a win, win.

I don’t drink soda/pop, so water is my go to fluid [or iced tea]  […or coffee]. it is a boring beverage, let’s be completely honest. I spice it up with seagram’s sparkling seltzer water ..either original or flavored. [the white peach is delish!] you’re still getting the benefits of water, but adding a little flavor & a couple bubbles. get really adventurous: add a slice of lime :)

there you have it; my wise words/reminder of the day.

excuse me while I go fill up my water.

happy monday.
