the other day, I shared an genius easy way to eliminate the “musical chairs” at your thanksgiving feast with these natural place cards. I told you they held a second purpose.
amidst the food + wine, it’s important to remember what brought you all together and to be thankful. so what better than to jot it down.
each person finds there seats just before dinner is served. once you arrive at your seat, each person is kindly instructed to open up their place card and write what they’re thankful for. they can then share and/or hang them on a tree.
If your thanksgiving group [family or friends] gets together annually or every few years ..it’d be fun to hold onto them for the next holiday feast.
what thanksgiving traditions do you hold dear?

it all started with a meow outside my parent’s window. and after a bit of a struggle to catch the tiny stray, there was a photo posted on facebook. the sweetest yellow + white kitten, who was in need of a good home. I instantly commented “[J] will take him!”. and the rest is pretty much history.
he joined our little family on friday. and we’ve been on kitten cloud 9 since.
granted our wedding planning has come to a screeching halt. when we’re at home, he wants to play or cuddle as close to our faces as possible. making it hard to do just about anything. but we’re suckers for him already. and can’t help but give in.
see more on instagram // especially the shot of him cuddling with [J] our first morning together. that’s when he really stole my heart.
so my absence was strictly because I’ve been spending all my free time enjoying our new bundle.
[J] & I have spent our last two weekends in the car + in chicago.
it’s [just over] five hours from des moines, IA to [J]’s family in downtown chicago. so I am not exaggerating when I say we’ve had our fair share of quality couple time and refills of iced coffee.
two weekends ago, we were celebrating [J]’s sister’s wedding. and this weekend, it was for the father’s + some quality family time. as much fun as we’ve had, I think it’s safe to say we’re looking forward to some quiet, relaxing at-home time. [assuming that’s what is in store for us ..lately, plans have been popping up like crazy. and we’ve spent very little time sitting still. that may or may not have to do with a large event coming up in four short months. ahem, wedding].
there were 4 trips over the mississippi river. a stop at eataly. six doughnuts consumed from glazed and infused. a trip to see the chicago cubs play. two fireworks shows. and a large wedding. plus more cocktails than I can count on both hands.
there is not enough coffee in the world to get me through today.
