the husband + I are all for holiday traditions. and this time of year, our favorite is decorating gingerbread houses. which we, of course, turn into a competition. this year we had more obstacles than years before. the husband’s roof refused to join the
party rest of his house. and sir rigby [our kitten] wanted to be a part of the fun. he even took a few kitten swings at my chimney, and knocked it clear off like godzilla. I didn’t bother trying to reconstruct it. so in short, it wasn’t our best year for decorating. but we still had fun, which is generally the goal.
so, without further adieu ..
our 2014 gingerbread houses.
welcome to the week of christmas. and excuse me, while I double check the calendar. there is no way it is here already, right?
what are your plans for the holidays?
the husband + I are traveling to chicago on christmas eve to spend time with his family. only two days of work left, woo hoo!
the first night of our #12daysofLLinaBC countdown, kicked off with a gingerbread house competition. it’s annual + friendly[ish]. and always against the husband. in five years of this little holiday tradition, I’ve won once. seriously. he’s a tough opponent.
we get gingerbread house kits and all the red + green candy our local store carries. and we get serious. but truly, it’s so much fun
I’ll be sharing our finished gingerbread houses very soon.
yesterday, our #12dayofLLinaBC plan was to go on a holiday lights drive. in des moines, they deck out an entire park with christmas light displays and you drive through in awe. all proceeds go to make-a-wish iowa. well, of course, there was a
torrential downpour all day long. which is insanely unheard of for middle of december in iowa. so it was cancelled for the evening. we will get there this week. have you had a chance to take in the lights in your neighborhood?
make a big pot of chili.
on sunday, december 14th, we will be a mere 12 days from christmas. to ensure we fit it all in, I’ve created a countdown with festive tasks for each day. everything from baking cookies, to a
friendly gingerbread house competition, and watching your favorite holiday movie. follow along with mine or create your own. but whatever you do, don’t let christmas arrive before you fully enjoy this time of year.
and do not forget to fill the stockings along the way.
mark your calendars.
