the first thing I did this morning was plug in the twinkly lights on our tree and crank up the christmas carols.
after I made a pot of coffee, of course.
merry christmas eve!
my family is passing through des moines today on their way out to colorado. so [J] + I are happily hosting a christmas eve feast at our sweet little
possibly too small for 7 apartment. we’ll be carrying on my family’s tradition and making a big pan of lasagna. nothing like carb-overload to put you in a deep sleep, so santa can sneak down the chimney. at least that’s what I presume. [J]’s family also has a scrumptious christmas eve tradition, of seafood chowder. my mouth is watering just thinking about it. we’ll be missing it this year. ahhh, why can’t we be in two places at once?
does your family have a traditional feast?
I need to get back to transforming the apartment into a cozy, christmas wonderland. but I wanted to share a couple scenes from around here ..
my christmas eve to yours.
even a dinner of seven needs place cards. and they need glitter.
I purchased gold ornaments from the dollar store & hot-glued pieces of wine cork to the bottom, to serve as a stand.
merry christmas eve!!
I cannot believe tomorrow is christmas eve already. that happened fast.
[J] & I made our holiday plans in advance this year to ensure we spent quality time with both of our families. [especially after my
minor married holiday rant]. on december 13th, we were off to chicago to spend the weekend with [J]’s parents. but there was a family emergency, and his parents boarded a flight for colorado as we were on our way to illinois. and last weekend, we had plans to visit my hometown + celebrate with my family. but a ‘major’ snow storm hit the midwest, and kept us in our apartment. to say I was disappointed would be an understatement. we thought we had the two family, two different state christmas puzzle solved ..wrong-o. as the grinch would say.
I would assume this is where holiday stress stems from.
instead of sulking, [J] & I made the most of our weekend. we baked + decorated cookies. went out for brunch. and watched an insane amount of christmas movies.
sometimes you just have to make
lemons cranberries into lemonade a stiff drink. and roll with the punches.
fortunately, my parents + grandparents are traveling to colorado on christmas. and have decided to take a pit stop in des moines to spend christmas eve with [J] & I. so today I’ll be busy transforming our little apartment into the scene of a beautiful holiday feast. wish me luck.
see you tomorrow!
and happy monday.
last night [J] & I held our 4th annual gingerbread house competition.
it is my favorite holiday tradition we’ve created
and last night was perfect.
the snow was falling. christmas music was playing. and our tree was shining brightly.
[*editor’s note: a winner has not yet been decided].
per usual, a mess was made.
what is your favorite holiday tradition?
