BFF greeting card.

there are many, many miles between me + some of my closest friends. it may be a “part of growing up,” but that doesn’t mean I have to like it. although, I do love traveling to see them, the rendezvous must be much more strategic these days. taking into account vacation days, coordinating work + life schedules, travel logistics, and families. I miss the college days, we’d meet on a whim; whether it was to get ready + go out or stay in + drink wine.

I love snail mail. people don’t receive enough happy things in the mail [#bills]. I thought it’d be fun to create a greeting card for my friends afar. by going the DIY route, I can personalize the message + add a fun touch. so that is what I did ..

I just designed the cards in a word document. I added a wine glass clip art. and for a subtle touch, I let the text go gradually from grey to black moving down the page. for the wine glass, I used mod podge, glitter, & a paint brush. I just filled in the “wine”.

cheers! to pretending we’re drinking wine together right now.

tips for blog events.

a lot goes into maintaining a blog.

from the beginning, it’s deciding what you want to share with others + how you want your little corner of the internet to look. there’s the endless brainstorming + never-ending possibilities. the styling + photography. the writing + the inevitable writer’s block. the unavoidable technology questions + issues. and of course, a lot of social media.

most blogs are a one-man show. they run the business, brainstorm + create the content, manage the social media channels, work with brands, and a lot of times ..all while simultaneously working a full-time job. it’s hard work, there is no doubt about it. and for those times when it becomes a bit exhausting, your inspiration needs inspiring, you need a fresh pair of eyes, or you just want to be surrounded by people that understand ..you go to a blog conference. and this weekend, I am so excited to be attending the GBS workshop in kansas city, MO.

[semi-side note: I recommend this for professionals in any field. it’s easy to get stuck in a routine. it’s really beneficial to see + hear how others around you are operating. we can all learn a lot from each other].

whenever I’m attending a professional event, you can dump out my tote + see these items ..

a notebook: while the rest of the world has moved on to taking notes on tablets, you can find me in the dark ages ..writing on paper. how you take notes is not important, just write them somewhere.

a writing utensil: even for you tablet users. there have been stranger places you’ve been asked if you have a pen. these are my favorites.

business cards: the trick is remembering to actually give them out. keep a few in hand. they’re not doing you any favors at the very bottom of your tote, all the way across the room, under your chair. we’ve all been there

• water: I keep a water bottle with me at all times, but for conferences ..I also throw into my bag a coconut water. this chocolate flavor is top notch.

phone + charger: the key is to finding a free plug-in when your battery starts to die, mid-tweet. if you can, a portable charger may really come in handy.

breath mints: no explanation necessary.

packing for a blog conference

• if you’re a kansas city guru, where should we eat + drink? the husband is traveling with me + we have an entire day to fill with fun.

• if you’re wanting to attend a blog conference, there are many out there. in fact, go blog social is hosting a two-day conference in april. I will be in attendance. you should too. [details here].

please let the weekend be here now. very soon.

the destination to our wedding.

[J] + I always knew that we would someday plan our wedding afar. we had envisioned an intimate ceremony on a breathtaking beach. that was the easy part. when we got engaged, we had no idea where to begin. after many intense nights of google searching, we stumbled upon destinationweddings.com. I felt at home there. I was able to search many destinations, a ton of resorts, and get an idea of what a wedding there would look like. we knew we wanted an all-inclusive resort, with many restaurants & activities, family friendly, and somewhat easy to get to from the united states. we went back + forth between the dominican republic + jamaica. but finally settled on punta cana, dominican republic. all because we fell in love with the hard rock hotel & casino.

there are twelve restaurants. everything from hibachi, brick oven-style pizza, a brazilian steakhouse, and so much more. not to mention, every pool has a food menu. and room service is included. six bars + nightclubs.

of course they have an amazing coffee shop, that [J] + I made a habit to stop by daily. and a gelato shop that will make you drool.

the pools are amazing. but the best ones, have swim-up bars. and the ocean is the craziest shades of blue.

but truly, we felt at home. you start seeing familiar faces. the bartenders know your drink order. the waitstaff asks “how are you doing today? like they’ve known you forever. the service is incredible.

I could live there.

[the wedding department at the hard rock punta cana blew my expectations out of the water. I cried saying goodbye + thank you to our coordinator, erika, that I knew for a total of seven days. I felt people bending over backward to ensure we had our dream wedding. and we did, plus so much more].
