travels // business in omaha.

during my radio silence last week, I was in omaha, nebraska. for four days of work training.

it just so happened, I arrived in town a mere thirty minutes before the tornado sirens went off. the city took shelter. and I took to the bar. [I get extreme weather anxiety. and I sure as heck was not staying in my high in the sky hotel room]. who else thinks I should be able to expense my sunday night, braving the tornado cocktails? I do. well, that’s how the trip started.

[*editor’s note: a tornado was spotted west of omaha. we just experienced 80 mph winds + thunderstorms].

days were spent in a marriott conference room. and nights were for discovering omaha.

from hotel room wine glass improvising, to the joy of changing out of my work clothes & into jeans, to delicious dinners, and a trip to the zoo. all captured by my phone.

I am happy to be home and back to my so-called routine. just as things are progressively getting crazier around these parts. it seems surreal to say we are in ‘wedding planning crunch time,’ with just over 4 months to go. summer is right around the corner. we have trips + celebrations on the books. I’m just excited and a little how the heck am I going to get everything done?.

happy monday.

life happens.

I had plans this week; to share a cocktail recipe. my favorite wintertime dinner. how to rock snow boots. but sometimes, no matter how much you plan, life happens. and kind of changes things a bit.

[J] & I are taking a very unexpected trip to chicago today.

as I’m telling you this, I have yet to pack & get myself ready. and about a 100 other errands. I’m still in my robe. we’re leaving in 1.5 hours. yikes!

on that note ..

have a happy wednesday.

you can always count on cookies.

I cannot believe tomorrow is christmas eve already. that happened fast.

[J] & I made our holiday plans in advance this year to ensure we spent quality time with both of our families. [especially after my minor married holiday rant]. on december 13th, we were off to chicago to spend the weekend with [J]’s parents. but there was a family emergency, and his parents boarded a flight for colorado as we were on our way to illinois. and last weekend, we had plans to visit my hometown + celebrate with my family. but a ‘major’ snow storm hit the midwest, and kept us in our apartment. to say I was disappointed would be an understatement. we thought we had the two family, two different state christmas puzzle solved ..wrong-o. as the grinch would say.

I would assume this is where holiday stress stems from.

instead of sulking, [J] & I made the most of our weekend. we baked + decorated cookies. went out for brunch. and watched an insane amount of christmas movies.

sometimes you just have to make lemons cranberries into lemonade a stiff drink. and roll with the punches.

fortunately, my parents + grandparents are traveling to colorado on christmas. and have decided to take a pit stop in des moines to spend christmas eve with [J] & I. so today I’ll be busy transforming our little apartment into the scene of a beautiful holiday feast. wish me luck.

see you tomorrow!

and happy monday.
