the week of a holiday is crazy. you’re wrapping up work
or not working at all. you’re creating lists upon lists of items you need at the grocery store. you have family members to see and guests to entertain. you constantly feel like you’re forgetting something. you bulk up your wine supply. and go in search of a holiday appropriate, yet post-feast comfortable outfit. it’s such a joyous time of year.
in the midst of all that crazy, [J] + I are having our wedding reception this weekend. along with our families. so on top of our thanksgiving to do lists, we’ve added a wedding.
[J] + I got married on october 11th in the dominican republic. it was amazing. my dream come true. see! we had 28 people there with us to celebrate our marriage. but key people were missing. so for that reason, we’re hosting a wedding reception in my hometown this weekend.
I cannot help but wonder how I’m going to fit into my wedding dress two days after our thanksgiving feast …
I cannot wait to share the details of our reception with all of you. we have been spending our evenings in a cloud of glitter + sawdust. it’s been a true labor of love.
I’ve been a married woman for a month now. it’s so exciting. but I’m pretty sure we haven’t been able to slow down enough to fully enjoy it.
or to catch up on our sleep. we’re currently planning a “return wedding reception,” in my hometown ..in fifteen short days. we thrive under pressure. thank god. speaking of wedding, we had our first snowfall yesterday. it wasn’t a lot, but it was enough you could see it ..and know winter is officially upon us. can we go back to the dominican republic now?
since we’ve been back
besides wedding planning, we’ve kept very busy. a few of my favorite moments over the last month ..
des moines has finally made it. we got a nordstrom rack. [J] + I attended the pre-grand opening party. the champagne was gone by the time we arrived, so we drank miller lite. // indulged in decadent macaroni & cheese while sipping on brews at exile brewery. // attended a beautiful, rustic wedding at a hidden gem of a venue, barnes’ place. // spent countless mornings strategizing over coffee + breakfast sandwiches. // poured wine at the iowa beer, wine, & food expo. stationed perfectly at the “sweet bitch” wine. // fallen even harder for the two men of the house. they’re so dang cute together.

hump day wednesday
so, I may have underestimated the amount of wedding planning I have to do.
[J] & I easily decided on a destination wedding. we wanted to be somewhere tropical + beautiful. and it seemed much more laid back to plan. [how can you be stressed on the beach with an umbrella cocktail?] but then came the return reception,
which will practically be a full-blown wedding reception, a month after our destination wedding. all of my jumps for joy about not being concerned about music, centerpieces, cocktails, food, & dessert were in vain. but for good reason ..it gives our guests that are not able to travel a chance to celebrate with us, and vice versa. I’m both excited and overwhelmed.
now that we are a mere 8 months + 21 days from theeeeee day, I consistently have wedding planning on the brain. and want to know what you want to read about ..
want to be a part of the return reception planning, step by step? want to hear about the latest wedding trends? interested in my health & beauty regimen leading up to the big day? not interested?
I want to know what YOU want me to share.
