after quite the exciting football sunday, we now know who will play in super bowl 49. in just two short weeks.
the new england patriots vs the seattle seahawks.
although I have no significant attachment to either team, I do to the super bowl. it’s a holiday, on my calendar. and holidays must be planned properly + executed
flawlessly well. so, this week I will be sharing with you how I plan for the big game. all you need to satisfy football + commercial fans alike. let’s get started ..
I am an advocate for signature cocktails at parties. [in addition to the staples, beer + wine]. it’s another fun way to help tie into your theme. when I think super bowl, I think beer. but that just would not do. a traditional moscow mule is quite refreshing and makes you think of summer. since I’m in the midwest, in january ..I didn’t think that was appropriate. by switching out the vodka for whiskey, you’ve hit the nail on the head. my dad always says
on very cold days, typically when outside tailgating whiskey warms you up from the inside out.
I may be the host, but I want to watch + enjoy the game too. so, I set out everything my guests will need to make their own whiskey moscow mules. including the recipe. they can help themselves + I can keep my rear on the couch. or by all of the scrumptious dips. my weakness.
more tips + recipes for hosting a super bowl party to come this week. stay tuned ..
I cannot believe tomorrow is christmas eve already. that happened fast.
[J] & I made our holiday plans in advance this year to ensure we spent quality time with both of our families. [especially after my
minor married holiday rant]. on december 13th, we were off to chicago to spend the weekend with [J]’s parents. but there was a family emergency, and his parents boarded a flight for colorado as we were on our way to illinois. and last weekend, we had plans to visit my hometown + celebrate with my family. but a ‘major’ snow storm hit the midwest, and kept us in our apartment. to say I was disappointed would be an understatement. we thought we had the two family, two different state christmas puzzle solved ..wrong-o. as the grinch would say.
I would assume this is where holiday stress stems from.
instead of sulking, [J] & I made the most of our weekend. we baked + decorated cookies. went out for brunch. and watched an insane amount of christmas movies.
sometimes you just have to make
lemons cranberries into lemonade a stiff drink. and roll with the punches.
fortunately, my parents + grandparents are traveling to colorado on christmas. and have decided to take a pit stop in des moines to spend christmas eve with [J] & I. so today I’ll be busy transforming our little apartment into the scene of a beautiful holiday feast. wish me luck.
see you tomorrow!
and happy monday.
there is no better time than the holidays to indulge, at least a little.
cocktails + desserts sign me up.
I limit my sweet-intake throughout the year, just so I can say “yes” to every sugary treat that I come within 5ft of during the holiday season.
today I’ve combined sweet treat + booze to make an indulgent cocktail. absolutely perfect for entertaining. picture this: your guests arrive to your house and are immediately met with enticing smells of brown sugar & cinnamon. then you hand them a mug of hot buttered rum, topped with whipped cream, and sprinkled with nutmeg. [mouth watering much?].
besides the fact that it’s delicious, the smell of this cocktail simmering in the crock-pot is enough for me to make it again. amazing.
“Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum and its rich warm characters along with its vanilla and toffee notes pull this classic cocktail together. The temperature of the cocktail and the brown sugar allows for a welcoming rum taste while the butter leaves you with a sweet aftertaste”. – daniel thomas [brand ambassador]. sir I agree with you. and thanks for the recipe.
